Did you break your toy?

Every time I go to shut down my computer while it is connected to a TV, the screen on the TV sticks on a shot of my desktop (as it appears when I have hit Command F1 in order for my computer screen to be the only functional screen).

Is there a specific order in which I should power up and/or power down when I am connecting with a TV in order for the TV screen to go blank when I shut down? Or is there a setting on my computer that I need to change?

PM9600 System Error Type -127

March 30, 2008 - 12:35pm

Our PM9600 was working just fine, until this morning. It started to boot, loaded all the extensions, then the bomb!! System error type -127.

I tried rebooting several times, same problem. Tried booting from Norton, Tech Tool Pro, and Disk Warrior, but the same error appears. I tried holding down the S key to turn off extensions, and also held down the C key to start from the CDs, but didn’t work.

Any ideas? Is this PM toast? What can I do to get it to boot and try using a disk utility application?

just bought my second MBP, came with Leopard. I have a slew of pro apps running just fine, thank you, in Tiger, cloned to second new computer, will not boot – kernel panics.

Tried Archive & Install with discs from first MBP, red stop sign “will not install OS to this volume” or whatever.

Set into target mode, erased device/volume, attemped clean install, same thing.

Called Apple, first escalation indicated that the install DVD from the first MBP was not compatible with the build of the second. understandable. He sent me two discs, neither worked.

Called again, confirmed with two different techs that engineering basically flipped off guys like me and made the MBP’s as of November not Tiger compatible. volume formated GUID, no other issues with the drive itself. There's more »

Macbook Pro, upgrade to 3GB RAM??

November 24, 2007 - 8:21am

Hi,

I have a macbook pro 2.33GHz, 15,4”, with 2GB RAM.

(The one in the middle)
http://support.apple.com/specs/macbookpro/MacBook_Pro_Late_2006.html

Should I increase the memory to 3GB and lose the dual channel memory support?
Or should I stay with 2GB RAM?

The heaviest programs I use is the Adobe Create Suites 3, photoshop and illustrator.

I’m running leopard 10.5.1 on my machine.

What would you do?

Edit:
If I upgrade to 2×2GB RAM, will only get 3GB in my case, will I still have the dual channel memory support?

And is it worth the money? uneasy

Regards

Start Woes

I’ve just come back from a 5 month road trip around Oz and started up my old faithful mirror door G4. No worries, ran for an hour or two then a splash screen came up saying a restart was needed. I did this but just ended up with an endless running of the little circular dial. I restarted again only this time got a kernel panic screen. Tried again but now there is not the usual start up sound just 3 longish beeps which I have never ever heard coming from any macs I’ve ever owned. The start up button now stays solid for about 10 seconds followed by 4 quick flashes and there is no screen at all.

I suspect hardware problems but also thought it could be the battery having been unpowered for so long. Has anyone heard the sound before? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I initialized the drive on my XP, and behold, doesn’t work on the mac.

No, I didn’t format it as well.

Looking to get the GPT back.

It’s a 9GB HD from a Revision B G3 with OS 8.5.1 on it.

My email is the same.

A similar thread is here, but the links are all dead, ezpecially this one “And try as I may, I can’t make a GPT-partitioned disk image to play with…. This should take care of that little problem:

Ok So I purchased a airport card for my Power Mac G4 and yes I purchased the correct card, the first card when installed the computer wouldn’t even start the OS. So I returned the card and got a new one. Now when installed the OS does come up YEAH! but here’s the problem, the computer WONT eject now and it still doesn’t “find” the card! ARRGGGGGGGG I installed correctly, I think,There's more »

I just updated to 10.4.9 and mac mail is mapping keyboard alphabet characters incorrectly both when I type and in old messages (only for messages from certain people, the majority display fine).

My alphabet when typing in mail is:

OPcdefghijklNMoBqrstuvwxyz (caps are letters switched)

the a=o, b=p, m=n, n=m, o=a, p=b. When I hit those keys on the keyboard the other characters come up, but only in mac mail.

I was advised in another forum to created a new user account and log back in to check and see if the problem is system wide. It is not. Mail works fine in another user account.

I have tried going back into my main account and deleting the following files:
user/libary/preferences/com.apple.mail
everything in – user/library/mail folderThere's more »

Disabling the Eject key

February 10, 2007 - 7:19pm

Too often I'm hitting the eject key on my MacBook Pro when I'm trying to hit just the Delete key. Is there a way to disable this button, or, even better, make it so the key has to be held down for a moment before the disc ejects? (I believe this was how my 12" PowerBook operated.)

Hard Drive Catalogue Problems

February 2, 2007 - 6:04pm

My System disk on my Powerbook G4 died today. It wouldn’t boot up, and when I dismantled my laptop and rigged it up so I could plug it into my Mac Pro, I found that Disk utility could see the device but couldn’t mount it, nor repair it.

I ran fsck_hfs on the raw device, using the -f -r -d flags (and variations of), but to no avail. Here’s what I’m getting:

$ fsck_hfs -r -df /dev/rdisk1s3
