Help!

... I need somebody. Help! I want ...

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have had a hacker in my first MBP that i ended up selling 2 and a half years ago because of this problem, and bought this one hoping my problems would go away, but nope…..The hackers are there everyday changing my passwords, locking me out, erasing my 2 backup external HD’s, all my pictures, music and changing my preferences to show me that they are there. I disconnected the wifi and bluetooth but to no avail, i don’t even connect to the internet and they change my preferences around. When i use Applejack, it tells me that modifications have been done on my system. There's more »

airport express spoofing

December 11, 2009 - 6:48am

Hi everybody,

I have been trying to connect to the internet through my newly bought airport express router. It wont work: I have found out the ISP wont allow it – I am in a student block and only one computer can connect from my flat. Someone told me the solution may be spoofing the MAC ID of the airport express and making it match the mac id of my powerbook. Is that possible? Will that work?

Another person told me I have to spoof the MAC ID of the computer and making it the same as the router one. I have tried, but terminal wont accept the new root password I have selected. There's more »

my brother recently passed his white macbook on to me. before doing so he installed a new 250 GB hard drive. he divided the hard drive into two partitions – one for Mac OS leopard and one for windows 7. i use windows for office only and Mac OS is my primary operating system. my brother however only gave 50 GB for the leopard partition and 200 GB for windows. i now have about 170 GB of unused disk space that i would like to redistribute so that the leopard drive has 190 GB in total and the windows drive 60 GB in total. i’m hoping not to have to reinstall everything and not lose any data in the process.
HELP!! anyone?

Mac Internet sharing through a router

September 11, 2009 - 9:33pm

Hey I have a Macbook pro and I use 3G card to go online. I need to connect a router on the Mac and share the connection with my other devises is this doable?

Does anyone have/can anyone create a script that does the following on a 10.5.7 computer?

a. Identifies the boot drive of a computer (assuming a MacPro here with 2 drives: a boot drive and a second internal drive used for data).
b. Checks the availability of at least X amount of free space on the boot drive. In my case I would look for at least 100Gb free (assuming a 50Gb WINDOWSVISTA image and leaving 50Gb free for future Applications).
c. Partitions the drive with a 50Gb back-end partition.
d. Runs the Winclone restore to the newly created partition.

I can see that a diskutil info disk0s2 will provide me with Total Size and Free Space but my scripting is not good enough to go any further.

I’d like to deploy this via ARD.

Hidden Remote Desktop

May 12, 2009 - 9:02am

I use an iMac at work and wanted to know how I should go about seeing if my co-worker is viewing my desktop from their computer. Recently, I discovered a one-way network connection to that computer. The co-worker was taking all my files. Now I want to find out if this person has a hidden remote desktop set up. Please help. Somehow, this person is reading my email and I want to put an end to all this spying. Thanks.

Netboot

April 22, 2009 - 2:38am

Does anybody know a way to properly disable PXE (Netboot) on a client running OSX 10.5?

I want to prevent that this client machine is “overtaken” by software like LANDESK in a deployment.

Normally the Netwok server will drop a file on a client so it ‘ll boot from network and request the image. Even if the user has administrator rights and filvault enabled, the image will be deployed….

Is the a way to prevent this on the client?

I think is must be disabled in the EFI ut don’t know howto and if possible

so anyone?

FiOS and OS X

February 3, 2009 - 2:15pm

My latest issue seems to be with a recent Verizon FiOS install here in the northeast (NJ). My cousin recently had it installed for phone, Internet and TV and is complaining that the performance for the Internet is extremely sub-par. The trouble is that she lives quite a distance from me and our work/day-off schedule doesn’t exactly match. I haven’t had a chance to see what the Verizon guys did or what changes/additions they made to her system etc. It could be something quite simple.

The only thing I know up to this point is that it appears to be running really slow. She says that when watching videos (I’m guessing she means streaming) there is dropout or after a while, the video just stops. Also when she’s downloading stuff, she claims the downloads often just stop. There's more »

I am a newbie to the Mac world and have purchased a MacBook Pro. I have installed VMWare Fusion 2.o and created a virtual machine XP PRO. However, when I try to launch a Windows Update I continue to be redirected to google….?

Any solutions would me appreciated!

spotlight with AFP

November 24, 2008 - 11:15am

Hi,

First time visit here, great and lots of useful info, thanks for that.

One thing I couldn’t find: how to index (with Spotlight) an AFP share (to a Netgear ReadyNAS device on the network).

I can access the NAS just fine and everything works well but it appears that Spotlight doesn’t (cannot?) index the data on the NAS drive? Is this possible or not?

Thanks in advance,
Kris
