Despite my decent abilities to google and search resources like askmefi, I was unable to find the answer to my question, so now I turn to Mac Geekery.

I spilled coffee almost a year ago on my MacBook Pro. Everything works a-ok but the screen has a brown stain over about 30% of it. I tried cleaning it with a cloth and some computer screen friendly cleaner, with absolutely no results, which leads me to believe that the coffee seaped through to the other side.

I do not trust my abilities to take apart the laptop myself. Are there any professional cleaners of laptops? Obviously, I am willing to pay. Is this a service available at the Genius bar? If so, how long would it take (meaning, will I be without my laptop for a couple weeks?).There's more »

i need a simple way to hide files on a mac OS X so the admin cant see them thnx.

I really need a way i can store images and not let the admin user see them. It needs to be a simple way preferable without out the use of the terminal but i can make do with specific instructions. thnx in advance.

I have two accounts in my mac. I cannot login to the other one. Everytime I type the correct password, it shakes, and says ‘ you are unable to login to user ‘username’ at this time’. But, I can login to the other user account.
Any idea why this is happening? and How to solve it.

I have always been working under that user account. All my files are in there. Including all the contacts I have in entourage.

I’m a noob and managed to hide a folder I didn’t want the kids to see, but now that I want to access/delete it, can’t remember how I did it or how to unhide it….keep in mind, I’m a noob, so I would’ve done this through a GUI and NOT by inputting code….can’t remember if the GUI was Apple or a download.

It’s been awhile since I hid the folder and the only reason I was reminded it was there was I ran “WhatSize” to see what was taking up space on my HDD so that I could delete some unused files, and WhatSize sees everything, including hidden folders…but my Finder is disavowing any knowledge of the folder….so, I know it’s there, I just can’t get to it.There's more »

I am using a Windows keyboard with a Mac Mini. The ‘@’ key (shift + ‘ combination) produces a “ (double-quote) and vice versa, that is “ (shift + 2) results in @.

Is there a simple way to transpose these keypresses so that the results are what it says on the keys?

My friend lives in the states, and i live in canada. we both have macs, and when we try to ichat, the video doesnt work. it says theres an error concerning the ip adress. he also says that when he tries to upload money onto a online card game account, he encounters the same problem and cant put money onto the account. but who cares about the cards! whats pissing me off is that i cant see him…and he cant see me!! hehe

can we do anything about this ip adress thing??

I am seriously considering buying a Mac Pro …. If at all possible, I would like to be able to dual boot, with Leopard or Tiger. Is it possible to boot a Mac Pro with Tiger, from an internal HD or external FW HD? If there is no way possible to boot a Mac Pro from Tiger, is there an emulator that will allow me to run most (or all?) of my old apps that I’ve been running on my iBook G4 1Ghz (running Tiger)? Thanks.

What would be the cheapest, easiest, and best way to record music from our audio tapes onto CDs? I would be using my G4 iBook, running OS X 10.4.11. Thanks.
