offline@offlineblog.com asks: QuestionI’d like to burn videos to DVD (as files) and then somehow view them in Front Row the same way I could see them before if they were in ~/Movies. Is this possible? Do I need to create a symlink to the dvd drive, or is there a more elegant solution? AnswerWell, it’s kind of elegant. All you do is make an alias to the location that you want to browse in Front Row in your Movies folder and it will present that as a folder in the Movies listing and let you view things in there as well. In this case, however, you don’t know the name of the disk that you’re going to load ahead of time, so what you can do instead is make an alias to the I tried it, and a symlink won’t work for a sub-item. You have to use an alias. Now, you can make the Movies folder in your home itself a symlink elsewhere if you like, and that would effectively chroot Front Row to another location for Videos, but you lose your home’s Movies folder if you do that, and I dislike that solution greatly. As this is an alias, we can’t really use Terminal for this, so get in the Finder and in the Go menu pick Go To Folder…. From here, type in /Volumes and hit return. Now drag the folder icon in the menu bar into your home folder’s Movies folder while holding Command (⌘) and Option (⌥) so that it makes an alias. Rename this to something like “External Media” or something (it’s going to be a menu item) and then start Front Row.
