Getting swat to start

I’m trying to swat running but have had no luck. I followed instructions found on http://www.samspublishing.com/library/content.asp?b=Mac_OS_X_Unleashed&seqNum=232&rl=1

but had no luck. Basically, the service doesn’t start up (I don’t know if it needs to start up as a daemon). I also tried starting it with the service tool ( e.g. service swat start) but it times out also.

So my question is, with Mac OS X, is samba and swat configured in some default way? If so, can someone provide pointers?
