Connecting to console port using USB-RS232 Cable

Hello,
I just bought a USB-RS232 cable so that i connect to console port in cisco and solaris machine which i administer, but the problem is I can’t get it to work! I have googled for about 7 Hrs now! but got nothing!

Please some one assist!

I use the included unix screen utility.
Find the /dev name of your device and run the following command:
(my device is /dev/tty.Keyserial1)

screen /dev/tty.Keyserial1 9600

To quit: type ~~a then~~ \
