Is nfsd necessary for MacOS X 10.3.9?May 24, 2009 - 1:31am
I’m trying to find out which processes can be safely removed from a Dual G4 Power Mac running MacOS X 10.3.9. The user interface and many applications are experiencing latencies, probably due to excessive installed software and/or configuration of the system itself. The unit is being used as a web server, even though it is not running MacOS X Server, so Apache, PHP and MySQL can’t be removed or disabled. Due to the complexity of setting up the web services and sites and the fact that the machine is in production mode, wiping and reinstalling is not an option. I’m looking for processes that could be removed or disabled, to reduce the CPU and VM load. I noticed nfsd, mountd, rpc.statd and rpc.lockd are running, but don’t see any real need for them. Does the system require these? If so, for what? If not, how can they be removed or disabled? About kenwhitmore |
