formatting or equivalent for a slightly senile mac

Hi. I switched to my beautiful mac about a year ago, and am still every now and then running into things I could do on a pc, but cant seem to work out on my mac, possibly because I never really understood what I was doing in the first place…. It is getting a little slow and temperamental, and on a pc I would format it, but I dont really know what I can do to tidy it up a bit, and get it up to top form again.
thanks
Deborah

IM going to go on a limb here and say, you mean Defrag? Did you really reformat reinsntall windows every year or so? *sigh* Well, the analogous option would be to archive and reinstall Mac OSX. This is NOT the best option. Try, on the install dvd, Archive and Reinstall. The option will zip the Applications and User Folder and overwrite everything else, then install mac osx over that with the applications and user folders in place So the users probibly won’t notice anything. Again, this is NOT optimal. As my first employer always said, “It’s better to keep up than to ketch up.” Maintenance is what you should seek. try MainMenue, a menu extra for tiger and leopard, that does all kinds of maintnace. Onyx i know is not yet leopard ready. its also good. does the exact same thing in an app plus others I’m not sure which is better
