serial communications

Hi,
HELP
Somebody stole all the init scripts from my mac mini (OS-X 10.4.x.). Being more familiar with Unix / Linux than OS-X, I’m curious if anybody has run across the need to put a modem getty on a mac mini USB port using a USB to serial adaptor? (I used to have a line in /etc/inittab that did this, but alas launchd has turned my nice, clear, concise, and easy to understand shell commands into something more like html and CSS.)

I’d need it to start at boot into runlevel 5 (What did mac do with runlevels 4,3,and 2? Don’t need it in single user mode.)

Another oddity that I’m hoping can be turned off is the insistance of my mac mini to stop requiring me to type sudo when I’m already SuperUser before I do anything?

Any help, suggestions, or guidance is greatly appreicated, thank you.
