I have OS 10.4.2 and I am trying to do a backup with Retrospect on a Lacie external HD. The Retrospect log told me the drive had the “Ignore ownership setting enabled.” I’ve read how to disable this by selecting the drive, going to “Get Info” and then under “Ownership and Permissions” making sure that “Ignore Ownership on this volume” is unchecked. But when I try to do that I do not see that check box. I tried looking under “Get Info” on other files/folders/drives, etc and I have yet to see this option. I am also booted up on the correct system on my hard drive. Can anyone enlighten me in any way what the problem might be?
Ignore ownership on this volume is only available on… well… volumes. And it is not available on the boot volume. You’ll see it on firewire drives, usb flash drives, iPods, and the like. But you will never see it on a folder or file, nor on the boot volume. It’s there, you’re just looking in places it’s not supposed to be.
