Master PasswordHelp please. This is my first Mac (bought used) It’s a Powerbook g4 with OSX Panther and I’m already having huge probs… The Company who sold it to me can’t seem to help. I need to reset the master password. The Mac is still set up for the previous owner, with his passwords…which I don’t know, and neither does my retailer. I was planning on doing a complete wipe of the HD, but I can’t even manage that! If anyone knows a way around this, it would be greatly appreciated! -Nabbles* About Nabbles |

You can reset the password if you boot to the install CD. In 10.3 and below the Reset Password program is in the Installer menu. In 10.4, it’s in the Utilities menu.
But if it’s someone else’s setup, you might be better off doing a re-install anyway, so that it’s setup by you and you know what’s where and so on.

My roommate had some friends over and one of them reset all of my passwords, accounts password, master password every password you could think of. I’ve been reading other peoples chats and posts and some other things and all i’ve gathered is i’ll need the OS X disks(which i have) and will have to clear the computer pretty much. Any suggestions or ideas on how to do this, fix this, solve this would be so awesome. Thanks.

What you can do is go to System Preferences, Users and create a new user for yourself so you can always at least log in. Locate yourself a copy of an OS X install disc whether it may be leopard, tiger or wherever you get it from ;-P
Boot up from the disc (don’t worry about restarting it.) Click through the next buttons till you see the menu bar at the top with one of them being Utilities. Under Utilities will be the option of reset password. This will allow you to reset administrator password to one of your choice!!!
