Disk Utility giving headaches

Well, try to make a proper bootable copy of your install DVD! Every single attempt I made to burn a disk image copy of my Tiger install DVD, Disk Utility botched the burn about 2 minutes in, canceling and saying:

“device drained its buffer without underrun protection”

DU must have made coasters out of 10 blank DVDs ….

I tried both DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs. (What’s the diff anyway? Is it just that one uses buffer underrun and the other doesn’t need it? Because DU screwed up with both types…)

Any ideas? I have tried for days now to make a proper backup copy of my Tiger CD.

Specs:
PowerMac 1GHz (single) MDD
Panther 10.3.9
1 GB RAM
LaCie external FW DVD+R burner

PS I also tried from the Terminal using hdiutil… same result as Disk Utility. DU must be built on it.
