Earlier somewhere on this site I heard that people were running Mac OS Tiger Server on mac minis and running remote home directories for laptops (the ones that sync with the server’s copy of the home directory)...
Then I put it all together that if I had Tiger server I could use all that login jazz to actually utilize all the computers I have with the same, synced login. Cool. Now to push the envelope:
Here is my question/challenge tinged with a few ideas:
Could I somehow setup a “family” account and then personal accounts such as “me” and “wife” and “guest” and have them all doing the remote home directoring mirroring trick in different combos on different machines AND share a iTunes and iPhoto library housed in the main “family” account?
Example:
Server:
“Family”- with the actual iTunes & iPhoto files
“Me”- personal files with aliased libraries to iApps
“Wife”-personal files with aliased libraries to iApps
“Guest”-personal files with aliased libraries to iApps
then, have these profiles synced and shared to:
Family iMac:
“Family”- with the actual iTunes & iPhoto files
“Me”- personal files with aliased libraries to iApps
“Wife”-personal files with aliased libraries to iApps
“Guest”-personal files with aliased libraries to iApps
My PowerBook:
“Family”- with the actual iTunes & iPhoto files
“Me”- personal files with aliased libraries to iApps
My Wife’s iBook:
“Family”- with the actual iTunes & iPhoto files
“Wife”-personal files with aliased libraries to iApps
I know it isn’t as easy as “aliasing” and versioning will be a killer, not to mention multiple logons… but seriously this would be the coolest setup ever. Anyone with the brains to handle this one willing to step up to the plate and detail a solution (or at least point to sources for a solution?)
Thanks!
