A few items here:

• Add environment variables to all programs launched in the GUI by adding keys to a special file.
• Start programs with a variety of environment variables and CLI flags to enable some debugging behaviors.

• Chase down program leaks by telling malloc to be a little more noisy.

The standard shell in 10.3+ is bash which allows for sh-type one-time environment variable sets in this fashion:

$ MallocStackLogging=1 ~/Documents/Projects/MyProgram/Contents/MacOS/MyProgram
