Screen Door on a SubmarineWho is more foolish: the fool or the fool that follows him? Is it possible to create your own quartz screen saver? Yes. Install the developer tools and open up Quartz Composer. Have at it. I just bought a little Zonet USB KVM (KVM3122). It’s supposed to switch inputs when you hit Scroll Lock twice in a row, but of course Macs don’t have Scroll Lock. As it happens, the way the KVM knows when to switch is when it sees the signal to turn the keyboard’s Scroll Lock LED on and off! In Linux I can write a script to do this with the ’xset’ command and all is good. The question is, is there a way to set the keyboard LEDs in OS X? I’m not above a little driver hacking if that’s what it takes…There's more » Like most people i’m sure, my computer is in my bedroom, and is on 24/7. I have my apple displays automatically sleep after 15 min of inactivity, but when i go to sleep i want them to go to sleep immediately. The best way i’ve been able to do this is to go to the energy saver control panel every night and change it to 1 min before putting them to sleep, then change it again in the morning. ugh! What i would love to do is reprogram the power button on my 23’‘ display to put both displays directly to sleep. A simple display ‘off’ button. thanks for the help guys For immediate release. Hey guys, I have an issue that I just can’t seem to troubleshoot. I have a 15” 1.67GHz (hi-res) PowerBook running a completely up to date OS X Tiger and Microsoft Office X for Mac. All is well, except Powerpoint which opens okay, unless you open an existing file. Most files open okay(ish) most of the time, but one seems to take forever (10-15 mins). I have tried firewire…ing to a G5 iMac both ways, have replaced one of the RAM modules (granted one was dead but it still didn’t solve the issue), then both of them, I have tried a copy of the file, even moved it to a 17” PB 1.67GHz with a fresh OS install and fresh MS Office X install to no avail. Oddly it happens most of the time, but occasionally it opens in around 40 seconds, rarely. I have of course repaired permissions, disks etc. also. New hardware, OS, Software, updates… The issue is that I can’t loose this file, and I can’t seem to copy the slides to a new file (it just crashes – as in non-responsive for 30 mins with a beach ball) the system, any system. It’s a clients and I have just run out of ideas. Anyone got any ideas? On my login screen I have a user named “Other.” I don’t know where it came from and how to get rid of it. I have tried to login with my Admin and user passwrods, but they don’t work. You can find this example here: http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a5/GeoK_sc/OtherUser.jpg Can you help me get this damn thing off my Mac? Thanks a bunch! Hi! How do I set my Mac in Klingon? Cheers, I have a power mac and when i turn it on a red light is on the motherboard lights up and then i hear three beeps and after that the fans start going and the screen stays black. can anyone tell me what is happening? Is there a possible way to stop the pulsating “sleep” light on a powerbook, via AppleScript or some other way? Aside from Shutting the computer off, of course. |
