The Geek Spot: 2006-02

February 28, 2006 - 1:27pm

We had a surge in answerable questions in February, but not so many in January. As such, we’re combining the questions for January and February into one big Geek Spot.

For those new to the Geek Spot, and who haven’t read the blurb at the left of the page yet, we run a (mostly) monthly contest to see who can put in a question that spawns the best tip. Mainly, it’s because we authors know a lot, but don’t have a good understanding of what, exactly, we know. So you send in questions and we’ll answer them and at the end of the month we’ll look back and go “Wow, that was a good article, in hindsight” and there’s the winner. It’s highly subjective, kind of random, and also a great way to keep the place fresh since none of you turds are writing articles with us.

That said, here’s the short list for this round:There's more »

The Geek Spot: 2005-12

December 30, 2005 - 6:30am

Yeah, the numbering changed, as did the process, but we did it this time.

Before, we were trying to push out five solutions a week while living normal lives. That really kind of burnt us out on the idea while depleting us of questions at the same time. The end result was us refactoring the way The Geek Spot would be done.

So here’s the new Geek Spot:

  • Questions will be answered throughout the month.
  • At the end of the month we’ll post the Geek Spot post (this one).
  • In that post we’ll look at the traffic and activity to the answers and from that decide which question was the best.

It seems more quantifiable that way. Of course, it’s still an opinion of the admins, so we won’t be publishing stats or anything. It’s all up in the air. That said, let’s talk about this month:There's more »

The Geek Spot: Issue 2005-40

October 7, 2005 - 7:48am

We’ve been backed up a bit but, no worries, we have some good ones this week. The really good ones are being researched and written as time permits and will show up eventually, but we said we’d get an issue out this week and did.

To those that gave us fodder for good discussion, thank you. The questions are getting more interesting and the answers are getting more useful. We may change how we do these in the future so that the questions to answer are voted on, but we’ll wait for the site traffic to really come up before going that route. In the meantime, hit us with next week’s questions at the usual place and we’ll sort through them. We still have some from the last two weeks we’re working on, or would like to work on, so you may get an answer some weeks from now, but we’d rather be behind than deficient, so fire off a few (one question per message, please). There's more »

The G-Spot: Issue 2005-39

September 29, 2005 - 11:30pm

There will be no G-Spot this week. A dearth of usable questions and a couple of of really, really freaking good-but-intense questions has made a Friday release impossible.

We’ll push several articles back to next week’s issue.

If you have some good ones to add, let us know.

The G-Spot: Issue 2005-38

September 23, 2005 - 5:05am

You folks got a lot better this round, with at least three really good sources of discussion fodder. Congratulations.

Alas, we got some hate mail from last week concerning our, shall we say, enthusiasm towards some of the dimmer questions. You really need to be a fan of the oracle to get the idea, but it was meant in jest. You’ll see, it’ll all be okay.

We got a lot of questions this week and we’re going to answer some of them in the upcoming weeks. Never the less, think about what you want your Mac to do and give us a holler so we can make it happen for you. There's more »

The G-Spot: Issue 2005-37

September 16, 2005 - 1:00am

What a lackluster bunch of submissions. Not only did you guys really let us down by asking a bunch of simple questions, but there wasn’t even quantity. They say it’s not the size of the boat, it’s the motion of the ocean… and sadly, we appear to be on a dingy on Lake Flaccid. There were some diamonds in the rough, though, and with those we bring you this week’s G-Spot…

Introducing: The G-Spot

September 9, 2005 - 4:44pm

Mac Geekery is pleased to present the G-Spot (G as in Geek), a new weekly column fielding email Q&A. If you have a question about how to troubleshoot, tweak, hack, mod, repair, or destroy your Mac, shoot The G-Spot an e-mail. Each Friday, we’ll answer the best five questions we receive.

Oh, and there’s booty, too!

If you “hit the G-Spot” by giving us the best question of the week 1, you’ll win a gift from Mac Geekery. For the first column, we’re giving away iTunes Music Store gift card worth fifteen (15) American smackers! 2There's more »
