I’m reading all the comments on Slashdot, Digg, and Ars Technica on JC’s Fix Your iPod For Free article and I just wanted to make something very, very clear: Do not drop-kick your iPod.
He tossed the dead iPod out the window to test a case. This led him to investigate the issue and realize that the cable was loose. In fact, a good number of people have, so far, fixed their iPods in this fashion. However, punting your sad, white friend off the balcony is not a valid repair technique. We advocate the proper repair of the iPod, not random acts of iPod violence. There’s no telling what else could break in such a situation.
Please, just reseat the cable. There’s some take-apart guides out there, just search for them and you’ll see how to open it up. It’s just a board, battery, and drive. Nothing big.
